World Bridge Federation Launches Under-14 Bridge Championships — Free and Open to All Young Players
March 2026 — The World Bridge Federation (WBF) has announced the launch of a brand-new Under-14 Bridge Championship, inviting young players from around the world to take part in a global online competition designed to introduce and inspire the next generation of bridge players.
The Under-14 event is open to everyone born on or after January 1, 2013, meaning that players up to the age of 13 are eligible to take part. Best of all, the championship is free to enter with no registration fee, making it accessible for enthusiastic young card players everywhere.
Three Global Events Across 2026
The Championship isn’t just a single date on the calendar — it’s a series of three events taking place at different times of the year to ensure participation regardless of time zone:
March 2026 (unfortunatley this would be 2.00am Aus Eastern Daylight time)
June 2026 (this will be more suited to our time zone and is likely on the Kings Birthday weekend)
September 2026
This format enables youth players from all continents to compete with minimal scheduling barriers.
Online Play with a Real Tournament Feel
Matches are played online via RealBridge — a dedicated platform that brings a live-camera experience to digital bridge tournaments. Young players will compete in minibridge matchpoint games, typically consisting of 10 boards, including some pre-dealt hands to help ease newcomers into competitive play.
Learn, Play, and Win!
The Championships are aimed at both newcomers and those with some bridge experience, offering a short lesson after play with tips and hints to help players improve. The focus on learning and fun makes this event ideal for families, teachers, and clubs looking to encourage youth participation in mind sports.
In addition to the competition itself, participants will have the chance to win gifts and other surprises, adding an exciting element to the experience. An event bulletin will also be published so players and spectators can revisit the most interesting hands and moments.
Registration Now Open
Registration for the first of the three events opened on February 15, 2026, with details and entry information available on the official WBF Championships website.
This initiative highlights the WBF’s ongoing efforts to grow bridge among younger generations, providing an accessible and fun entry point into one of the world’s most strategic card games.
